Various Activities of The Department:
College Day Celebrations:
The department plays a very vital and dynamic role in organizing the college "Annual Day" celebrations. All literary competitions are organized by this department.
Participation In Literacy Drive And Janmabhoomi Programmes:
A novel functional literacy programme using computers was organised with the participation of our first year students, on behalf of Tata Consultancy Services, Hyderabad. This programme enabled the illiterates to read news papers after a month's training.
Janmabhoomi programmes were also conducted by involving students of the college at the instance of the Government of Andhra Pradesh.
College Magazine:
The department was instrumental in bringing out the first issue of the college magazine "SRUJANA 2000", which contained not only articles from the student community but also by some eminent educationalists. "SRUJANA 2001" was also brought out which was very well received by the students and staff.
Best Teacher Awards:
It is heartening to mention that all the six eligible staff members of the department were given best teacher awards. Three of them received a cash award of Rs.10,000/- while three others Rs.5000/- each.
Laboratories:
Physics Lab:
The physics Lab is very spacious and is fully equipped which can accommodate 35 students at a time. It is worth-while to mention that certain concepts like fiber optics, laser and Holography are explained by using laboratory kits.
Engineering Chemistry (Fuels and Lubricants) Lab
The chemistry lab is housed in Mechanical Engineering Department for doing experiments on Fuels and Lubricants. Only the Mechanical Engineering stream of B.Tech I/IV has this lab.
Future Plans:
i) We intend to start a Science and Humanities Association, which can arrange lectures, Mathematical Quiz etc. It is proposed to have an Open-Day / Exhibition in the college premises during the next academic year.
ii) An English lab is also planned for improving written and oral communication skills of students.
The department is planning to take two photo conductive cells and two solar cells for physics lab for demonstration purposes to make the students understand the theoretical background of each.
